Ben Affleck As Batman Sparks Removal Petition: Thousands Sign, Actor Considered ‘Not Man Enough’ For Role

The selection of Ben Affleck as Batman has elicited quick and creative reactions from Social Networks.

However, they may not have anticipated that it would spark an actual petition, especially a petition on the White House website! The petition has since been taken down as it 'violated the site's terms of service.'

To be fair, the petitioner, identified as a man from Westland, Michigan admitted that there  are more pressing matters that the government should address. However, he reasoned that the petition had to be made to address the ensuing outrage.

Another petition was posted on change.org and is still active. It's in the form of a letter and as of this writing, has garnered more than 9,000 signatures. The petitioner is John Roden of Ludlow, Kentucky.

The reason for the petition is that Ben Affleck is "not built, nor is he intimidating enough for the role of Batman." He also cites the actor's last performance as a superhero, the Marvel Comics character Daredevil, as "atrocious" and he's not even close to being an action star.

Signees of the petition cited that Affleck will destroy the legacy of Batman. They also called for the return of Christian Bale.

Meanwhile, memes have surfaced around the internet in reaction to the selection, including a portrayal of Affleck's best bud Matt Damon playing Robin opposite him. Several tweets have been posted. Some of the rants center on Affleck's Boston accent. The hashtag  #shouldabeenbatman elicited suggestions like Ethan Hawke, Ryan Gosling, Wes Bentley and even Matt Damon.
