Google Play Store Update: Company Renews Policies, Requires Third Party Apps To Use Its Billing Service

In a move to provide better user experience to Android device owners, Google has changed its Play Store policies and addressed certain issues regarding third party applications and developers.

On Friday, Google sent an email to third party developers whose apps are included in the Play Store, according to The Next Web. Included in the email were a few changes which would change the entire store's landscape in the weeks to come. Here is a summary of the changes made:

  • Ads which are considered 'system interferences' would not be allowed anymore. These are composed of ads showing on homescreens, toolbars and taskbars, and require permission for changing certain system settings.
  • Under the Hate Speech section, developers are not allowed to publish content that promotes advocacy.
  • Under the Impersonation or Deceptive Behavior section, content should not provide any false or misleading information, words, icons and screenshots to users.
  • In general, third party applications which require in-app purchases should follow the standard payment and billing procedures for the Play Store. In addition, developers are not allowed to provide rewards or bonuses to users just to rate an app, as well as artificially increasing their app's download count.

The move from Google comes after several reports that the company is planning to re-establish the Play Store and set a high standard for both in-house and third-party developers.

According to the email, developers will only be given 30 days to comply. Otherwise, their respective apps will be banned from the store immediately.
