Facebook News Feed Update: Social Media Site Updates Algorithm For News Feed, Expects 'Higher Quality' Posts

For many years, Facebook has aimed to promote social interaction among peoples, cultures, and nationalities across the world, and they have mostly achieved that goal. However, as years go by, posts and status updates have gone from tolerable to irritating. And while there are some users who can still continue their social media browsing normally bu just hiding such posts, there are some who just can't stand it.

Fortunately, Facebook has heeded their call, and upgraded the algorithm of determining news feed-worthy posts. In a recent announcement at Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters, the company explained what the algorithm means and how it will determine a post's rank in your News Feed: the author, the number of likes, shares and comments.

But before making the update, Facebook first conducted a study wherein it asked users what 'high quality' means to them. After the survey, the company compiled "over a thousand" different factors which they should consider in order to identify whether a post is News Feed-worthy or not.

After the new algorithm was developed, Facebook used it on "a small segment of users" and studied their social media behavior as well as their interactions with appearing posts on their respective feeds. It turned out that those users engaged more with the content, and few hid stories or posts.

According to Mashable, the new update on News Feed algorithm will take effect in the next couple of weeks in both desktop and mobile versions of Facebook.
