Royal Baby Photo UPDATE: Kate Middleton’s Dad Didn’t Practice What He Preach; Amateur Photos Proved This!

It's ironic how the Duchess of Cambridge's father, Michael Middleton, broke the cardinal rules mentioned in his website regarding photography. Middleton took the first few snapshots of the royal family featuring his grandson Prince George.

While the photo did not lack in charm department, it was poorly judged for its overall technical quality.  The candid shots were captured using an uncomplicated point-and-shoot camera with no accessories at all.

Kate Middleton's parents are known for establishing Party Pieces which according to CNN Money is "UK's leading online and catalog party company." Apart from retailing party paraphernalia, the 26-year-old company also offers tips for throwing memorable events.

In the Party Pieces website, amateur photographs are reminded to "ensure natural light is behind when taking pictures at family occasions." However, the royal couple's family portrait had an intense light as its background casting the subjects' faces into shadow.

The Daily Telegraph's photo editor Brian Roberts specifies what's wrong with the image: "The biggest issue is the back light. He hasn't balanced the sunlight with another light source, whether that be from another flash or a reflector.''

He equally commented about the incorrect focusing of the subjects: "He's used auto focus and the camera he has used has focused in on the black dog's face, leaving the rest of the photo lacking sharpness.''

Another tip in the website is to dress the subjects in such a way that their outfits will not clash. Although the new mother's Seraphine dress sold out in two hours, its pigment did not complement Prince William's pale-coloured ensemble.

Little is known about the photography experience of Prince George's grandfather. Prior to being a full-time businessman, he was a British Airways flight dispatcher.

Regardless of the photo's technical quality, the portrait of the future monarch is undoubtedly historic. As opposed to seemingly "scripted" photographs, the leaked photos of the royal family radiate an intimate and natural aura.
