He may be the resident bad boy of the famed vampire series but in reality, Ian Somerhalder is a sucker for sweet sayings. Although fresh from a break-up with his lead actress Nina Dobrev, his latest photo on Instagram proves that one lucky girl already caught his heart.

The photo's caption says, "My new girl. Rescued from traffic near the Vampire Diaries stages just a few hours ago - so smart, so beautiful & charming - all a man could ask for in a girl. So happy together. Her name is Nietzche... Photo by the one and only @thejram."

The girl is no other than the adorable dog who seemed to be so vulnerable that made Somerhalder take her home.

His smoldering eyes can be mistaken for someone who's conceited but the former 'Lost' star is actually a passionate advocate of worthy causes involving the environment.

With the arrival of Nietzche in his life, he is further moved to build the Ian Somerhalder Foundation Animal Sanctuary that aims to provide food, shelter, and water to victims of animal cruelty.

More than being a place that will nurture the abused and abandoned, the actor also wants the sanctuary to leave an impact to its visitors: "When a young person comes to that farm, they leave with a different understanding of compassion. If you have compassion for an animal, ultimately you will have compassion for people."

Fans can still rejoice since the Salvatore vampire is currently unattached. However, any girl who plans to woo him should take note of what he said in an interview: "I don't care how hot a girl is. If she doesn't like animals, it would be a major, major problem."
