Robin Thicke 'Blurred Lines' Alleged Settlement Offer Refused By Marvin Gaye's Son: Singer Sues For Plagiarism Accusation

Robin Thicke, the artist behind the hit song "Blurred Lines," has allegedly offered a settlement to Marvin Gaye's son for the possible plagiarism accusation. When Gaye refused, Thicke proceeded to file a pre-emptive suit.

Robin Thicke had a major hit with "Blurred Lines." However, insinuations that the song was too similar to Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" has forced Thicke and his group to sue Marvin Gaye's son in order to 'protect the song.'

The suit also accuses Gaye's representatives of claiming ownership to an entire genre. Thicke, supported by the other artists featured in the song (TI and Pharell) are fighting for their right as artists to not be constricted in their creativity.

Marvin Gaye III has addressed the suit in an interview with TMZ. He states:  "We're not happy with the way that he went about doing business let alone suing us for something where he clearly got his inspiration from at the least."

The settlement offer wasn't mentioned in the interview, but Gaye saw the suit as an admission of guilt.

'Blurred Lines' is on its tenth week at the Billboard charts and is acknowledged as summer's biggest hit. Thicke admits that "Got to Give It Up" is one of his favorite songs and that 'Blurred Lines' sought to "evoke an era." Yet, despite these admissions, the songs were "clearly different."

As Thicke protects his song, Gaye seeks to protect his father's legacy. The battle continues.
