Facebook News Update 2013: Users Can Now Contribute And Create Their Own Photo Albums, Available Today

Do you often see in your timeline different albums from your friends about one particular event? Looking at albums may be interesting to some, but if you are going to navigate 20+ albums with more than 100 photos each, that would be time-consuming.

Facebook has now solved the problem by introducing 'shared photo albums'. It is a new feature that enables a group of people to contribute and create their own photo album. That means all photos which are about a certain event will only go to one album, which makes photo browsing more convenient. In the same way, interactions among friends and contributors of the album would be much livelier and not isolated.

In a statement, Facebook confirmed the new feature:

Hundreds of millions of photos are uploaded onto Facebook each day and today, we're making it even easier for friends to share photos with the rollout of Shared Photo Albums.  Whether you're at a wedding, birthday party, or fresh off of a trip, all your friends will be able to add photos, tag photos and edit just one album.

The album creator would be able to invite up to 50 contributors, and each one can upload up to 200 photos. There are also privacy options which album creators can modify whether they want everyone to see the album, or just the contributors or the contributors' friends.

According to Facebook engineer Bob Baldwin, the new feature will be available for select users starting today. Then, it will be implemented internationally in the next few weeks.

With emerging photo sharing media sites threatening to dethrone Facebook as the top destination for picture sharing, the social media giant has recently been improving its sharing options. Just several days ago, Facebook as partnered with upload site Shutterstock in order to supply images for FB's advertisers.
