One Direction may be celebrating their stardom and most recent win at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the quintet took the time to dish on their new upcoming album with ABC.

"We didn't really want to follow the stereotype of the boy band. But we are, obviously, still a boy band. And we're just doing it in our own way," said Louis Tomlinson regarding their identity as a musical act.

"We literally are the best of friends."

But outside their relationship, One Direction also dished on their new album, which will feature their latest single "Best Song Ever."

"We take our music so seriously. And especially this [new album]...we have done a lot of writing on it. For us, the music is such an important part," continued Tomlinson.

Reportedly, the members of One Direction (Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson) wrote 10 of the 14 songs featured in the new album.

In addition, the members of One Direction are also busy learning instruments, in order to better round out their musical catalogue.

"We wrote three songs on the last album but this is different. Liam and I have been spending our days off writing. It'll be interesting to hear what people have to make of it but you'll always get criticized," said Louis to The Sun.

One person who was a bit nervous about One Direction writing the new album is Simon Cowell, who discovered the five members on "The X Factor UK."

"A lot of the tracks have been written by the guys this year and I'm always kind of nervous about that, but I have to tell you, their writing is absolutely brilliant," said Cowell according to EntertainmentWise.

To celebrate the new album, it appears Liam Payne gave himself a tattoo with the lyrics "I Figure It Out." Is this a hint at the next single for their new album?
