"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 premiere date is October 3, and spoilers reveal that the newly-human Katherine could cause an Elena and Damon break up?

"The Vampire Diaries" returns for season 5 in just a few months, and Delena fans eagerly await seeing Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) together as a happy couple, even though he will remain in Mystic Falls while Elena goes off to Whitmore College.

But according to TV Guide, Katherine will once again stir things up, Wet Paint reports. Elena force-fed Katherine the cure to vampirism at the end of season 4, and we're pretty sure she isn't happy with her new mortal life.

"For once they'll be happy," TV Guide writes of Delena. "But their bliss will be foiled - yet again - by Katherine, who'll be back to meddle in everyone's lives. Although Damon says that he's over her, what will Elena - who's now off at college - think when she learns that Damon and Katherine have been bunking together at Chez Salvatore all summer long."

Doesn't sound good for Damon and Elena. As fans will remember, Damon was hopelessly in love with Katherine for 100 years or so, though she never returned his feelings and was in love with his brother, Stefan.

As we previously reported, Elena and Damon have hope - TVGuide.com reports that executive producer Caroline Dries dished in a recent interview that Elena and Damon will finally have a chance to enjoy each other's company.

"Elena and Damon are a super-sexy couple and happy for once," Dries said.

Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena, told Entertainment Weekly, "It's been a fun summer for Elena and Damon."
