Interpol on the Lookout for the `White Widow’; Sought for 2005 London Subway Suicide Bombing; British Press

“White Widow, Samantha Lewthwaite, whose first husband was part of the 2005 London suicide bombings that killed 52 commuters on subways and a bus, is the target of a worldwide alert.

Interpol is on the lookout for the fugitive Brit, Samantha Lewthwaite, who is being called "white widow" by the press. Interpol issued the arrest notice on Thursday. The “White Widow,” Samantha Lewthwaite, 29, is a Muslim convert.

Interpol issued the worldwide alert for British terror widow, distributing photographs of the “White Widow’s” fake South African travelling passport with the name Samantha Lewthwaite.

Interpol is acting on a Kenyan request. Kenyan authorities want the White Widow in connection to a 2011 plot to bomb holiday resorts.

No evidence has linked the “White Widow” to the terrorist attack on the Nairobi shopping mall, which killed dozens of people. It was not mentioned in the Interpol arrest notice. However, one of Kenya's foreign ministers said that a British woman was involved in the Nairobi shopping mall attack and British press has been scrutinizing the White Widow.

The Interpol notice charges the White Widow with possessing explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony in December 2011.

Samantha Lewthwaite originally criticized her late husband, Jermaine Lindsay, for taking part in the London transit attacks. The White Widow told The Sun that imams at radical mosques influenced him, "How these people could have turned him and poisoned his mind is dreadful. He was an innocent, naive and simple man. I suppose he must have been an ideal candidate. He was so angry when he saw Muslim civilians being killed on the streets of Iraq, Bosnia, Palestine and Israel — and always said it was the innocent who suffered."

The White Widow was born in Northern Ireland but grew up in London. She is the daughter of a former British soldier.

According to published reports, The White Widow converted to Islam when she was a teenager. She met Jermaine Lindsay when she was to studying religion and politics at the School Of Oriental and African Studies in London. They got married in an Islamic ceremony on Oct. 30, 2002.

Local city councilor Raj Khan, who knew Lewthwaite's relatives in Aylesbury, told the British Press Association, "She was not strong-headed. And that's why I find it absolutely amazing that she is supposed to be the head of an international criminal terrorist organization."
Lewthwaite gave birth to a daughter, the couple's second child, fifteen days after the London attacks. She said her husband "wasn't the sort of person who'd do this."

Officials believe the White Widow fled to Somalia.
