HTC And Beats Audio Part Ways, Taiwanese Company Sells Shares For $265M

Since 2011, HTC and Beats Audio have become synonymous in the smartphone market. That's about to change after Beats buys its remaining shares from HTC.

Today, Nasdaq reports that the Taiwanese manufacturer has agreed to sell its remaining Beats Audio shares for $265 million to finally severe its ties with the audio and speaker company.

Since last month, speculations have been making the rounds all over the Web, stating that Beats Audio is already contemplating to buy out its remaining shares from HTC. The decision comes after the mobile maker's dismal performance as far as smartphone sales is concerned.

Three years ago, Beats founder Dr. Dre and Jimmy Lovine agreed to sell 50 percent of the company's shares for $300 million to HTC, who by that time was at the top of the Android competition. But while the company has kept pace with the trend and technology by releasing top-notch phones, it has continued to be powerless against the marketing juggernaut of Samsung.

The breakup of the HTC and Beats Audio partnership is certainly a great blow in the mobile phone maker's hardware and software development progress. And while HTC claims it will still manufacture phones with Beats Audio technology, there is a high possibility that it would not be the only one to get such feature.

Meanwhile, according to TechnoBuffalo, Beats Audio may expand its business on developing speaker systems for vehicles, as well as a music streaming service.
