Vanessa Hudgens’ new movie “Gimme Shelter” is set for national release date on January 24, 2014.

Vanessa Hudgens, like Miley Cyrus, started as a child star on Disney. Since leaving Disney both Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens have been trying to distance themselves from their Disney past. Vanessa Hudgens has appeared in a nude photo scandal and has gone from films like Disney’s “High School Musical” to adult films like the controversial conspiracy film “Sucker Punch” and “Beastly.” Since leaving Disney the former Hannah Montana gave the Miley Cyrus VMAs 2013 performance.

The Los Angeles Times points out that, just in the last year, Vanessa Hudgens has appeared as a concubine, a party animal in a tiny bikini and a runaway stripper in the crime thriller "The Frozen Ground." Vanessa Hudgens spent most of “Spring Breakers” in a bikini hanging with a pimp named Alien played by James Franco. “Spring Breakers” also starred Disney alum Selena Gomez.

Vanessa Hudgens wants to win an Oscar some day. She said that “it is why I’m very picky about what I do, and I make sure I’m not doing the same thing over and over.”

Vanessa Hudgens spent two weeks in a shelter and chopped off her long hair to prepare herself for her role in “Gimme Shelter.” In the true-story-based-film, Vanessa Hudgens plays Agnes Bailey, a pregnant 16 year old on the streets. Vanessa Hudgens stars along with Ann Dowd who plays Kathy DiFiore and her longstanding association with Several Sources Shelters. Difore worked closely with Mother Teresa to change the shelter laws in New Jersey.

Roadside Attractions bought the U.S. right from director Ronald Krauss in advance of the Hartland Film Festival’s world premiere of the film. Howard Cohen, co-president of Roadside said "We were quite impressed with Vanessa Hudgens, who delivered a terrific, and transformative, performance.”
