Bernie Kosar Arrested Drunk Driving Sunday Morning In Cleveland: Held On $500 Bail As Problems Continue For Former NFL Quarterback

Bernie Kosar arrested for drunk driving: The former Cleveland Browns quarterback was taken to jail after allegedly driving drunk in Cleveland Sunday morning.

As a backup quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys, Bernie Kosar hoisted his only Super Bowl trophy with the victory over the Buffalo Bills. The former champion was arrested for drunk driving at 2:45 a.m.

A police statement said Kosar was pulled over for speeding and that's when officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The statement also said that Bernie Kosar took sobriety test and was then taken to jail. He was held on $500 bail.

When he was pulled over, the report said he was alone.

The 49-year-old from Youngstown, Ohio didn't return calls from any media outlets.

After a successful college career at the University of Miami, Kosar, who was scheduled to graduate over the summer from the University of Miami's business school with a double major in finance and economics, had two years of college eligibility remaining. Therefore, there was a controversy over his NFL draft status. He would be selected in the supplemental draft of 1985.

The former Hurricane had to make up his mind and eventually decided to go into the draft. Unfortunately for him, his paperwork wasn't handed in time, so he had to wait for the supplemental draft.

Kosar has publicly talked about how head injuries sustained during his NFL career have affected his speech, making him sometimes slur his words. Not only that, but the former QB has had his addictions with pain medications. He has also gone through a divorce and financial troubles.
