Goonies Sequel 2014: Goonies 2 Rumors Stall, Goonies Never Die, But Leaks Do, What Do We Know About Goonies Sequel? There May Be Songs [VIDEO]

Goonies Sequel 2014: Goonies never die. The Goonies 2 is reportedly in the works and Richard Donner, the director of the original cult movie The Goonies says the sequel might be based around a new story from original writer, producer and second unit director, Steven Spielberg.

It is taking a long time to bring Goonies back to life.Goonies director Richard Donner has been keeping news of the sequel fairly secret, like asking "What's The Goonies?" when people ask him about the sequel. Donner did admit that "of course" Mr. Spielberg is involved.

Spielberg came up with a new storyline, but plot details have yet to be divulged.

In the Goon Docks, a bunch of kids found an ancient Spanish map and tracked followed it to a treasure chest of Pirace Booty hoarded by One-Eyed Willie. Goonies starred Corey Feldman, Jonathan Ke Quan, Sean Astin and Kerri Green.

The Goonies, the classic treasure hunting adventure that Richard Donner directed and Steven Spielberg produced adventure story is getting a sequel.
Sean Astin and Corey Feldman, who starred in the original cult classic, recently dished on a 'Goonies' sequel to HuffPost Live, promising "'It will be a thing." They also let spill that Chris Columbus is on board in the writer's galley.

Corey Feldman crashed a segment with Sean Astin that HuffPost Live was broadcasting on Wednesday. Feldman took to his webcam to reveal to say he and Astin are great friends, He also gave some details about the rumored sequel to The Goonies.

When news of the Goonies sequel first hit Sean Astin told IGN "It will happen. I'm 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it."
Astin played Mikey and Feldman played Mouth. Astin said "When Steven, who ultimately is the decision-maker on this, when he has felt the magic and he and [Goonies director Richard Donner] are in agreement, which I believe will happen, then it'll be a thing."

Corey Feldman and Sean Astin both admitted that they were surprised when Donner chose TMZ as the outlet to say a Goonies sequel was coming.

Astin said the original screenwriter Chris Columbus would be back in some capacity and that producers are "actively trying to secure a writer based on an outline that they feel really confident about." So if Chris Columbus isn't writing it, what will he be doing? Writing lyrics maybe?

Astin said Steven Spielberg is the ultimate decision-maker. A couple years ago Spielberg told a media outlet that was talking with Chris Columbus about taking a Goonies musical sequel to Broadway. The name Tim Long, who writes the funny musical bits on "The Simpsons," was mentioned. The rumor is that a musical treatment on Goonies was delivered up.

Back in 2011, Richard Donner told The Sun: "We're really trying extraordinarily hard to get it made. It's a tough road, Broadway is another world totally, and hopefully, probably around September, we'll be talking positively. We have Tim Long doing the book (writing the music and lyrics for a stage show) and it's quite good. The process on Broadway is another world. But if we're going there with Goonies, which has such a great following, a great life, it has got to be the right thing. Hopefully we'll be presenting it to you in the spring of the following year. Goonies has an incredible following, and we must be true to it. Hopefully Broadway accepts what has worked for Goonie fans before. If they do, we're a hit but if they don't..."
