HTC One Mini 2: Alleged Pricing Of Android Midranger Could Spoil Its Success Even Before Release Date

HTC One mini 2: Remember when we said in previous reports that HTC may be finally realizing its fullest potential in the midrange market? Well, let's forget about that for a minute.

If you are a fan of HTC and you are located in the UK or within the EU, you may be a bit disappointed that during its official unveiling last week, no specific details were mentioned about your location.

Now, here's some good and bad news.

In a new report by GSM Arena, the newly-announced handset would allegedly hit UK on June 30, and presumably other European markets several days after that. That's the good news.

For the bad, the Android-powered handset will be priced at £498.85 based on an Amazon listing in the UK that accepts pre-orders. For a device that only packs a Snapdragon 400 chipset, 1GB RAM, 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and a 4.5-inch HD display, that pricing is simply unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Dutch retailers have listed an unofficial price tag for the HTC One mini 2 for only €470, which is pretty much how it would cost in the real world anyway.

It's only days since the One mini 2 was made official so we still can wait for the dust to settle down and hear HTC's announcement.

In a mobile industry where the cheap rules, releasing an overpriced smartphone in the market could be fatal. Just consider what happened to Blackberry when it launched a midrange device with a high-end price tag?

HTC should be learning from past mistakes, not commit them over and over again. Fortunately, the HTC One mini 2's steep pricing is still unconfirmed for now.

However, in case the Taiwanese manufacturer does make the announcement regarding pricing, and the price tag of the One mini 2 is identical or near to the steep cost, then expect another flop smartphone this year.
