‘Ant Man’ Movie Delayed? Director Ed Wright Out Of The Project! Visionary Filmmaker Has Planned Ant Man For Almost A Decade! Is This Marvel’s Downfall?

The "Ant Man" movie to be headlined by Paul Rudd might be delayed. Director Ed Wright is no longer with the film after being a part of the planning process for almost a decade! What would cause him to leave his pet project?

Marvel claims that there will be no effect on the release date, pegged at July 17, 2015. But it's barely a year and they will still need to search for a new director (or based on the rumors, finalize the script). Time will not be on their side.

The full announcement from Marvel.com:

"Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Marvel's "Ant-Man" due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly."

Why did Marvel let go of the highly touted director? The project was deemed as an underdog if not for Wright's involvement, whose 'Cornetto' trilogy of "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz" and "At World's End" were already considered as comedy classics. It seemed like a match made in heaven as Marvel cast the film according to the Wright's vision of the character.

Latino Review, a notorious internet sleuth site claims to have the skinny on Wright's departure: "About 3 months ago, Marvel had notes. The meat of the notes were about the core morality of the piece, must include franchise characters. etc., These notes came from the big four at Marvel. Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright did two drafts to try and answer the notes without compromising their vision.

6 weeks ago Marvel took the script off them and gave the writing assignment to two very low credit writers. One of the writers were from Marvel's in house writing team. Edgar stayed cool, agreed to stay on the project, and read the draft.

The script came in this week and was completely undone. Poorer, homogenized, and not Edgar's vision. Edgar met with Marvel on Friday to formally exit and the announcement went out directly after."

Is Marvel struggling with continuity that they need to take a tight rein on the script? We hope that's the only problem, but if they're stifling the creativity of an Edgar Wright, then their movies will become generic-and boring.

Is this Marvel's downfall? We'll find out with their choice of a new helmsman who's willing to simply direct the script. That's usually a recipe for failure, but if the talent is good enough..We'll find out on July 17, 2015.
