Samsung Chairman Lee Kun Hee Regains Consciousness After Hearing Baseball Homerun

The 72-year-old chairman of electronics giant Samsung, Lee Kun Hee, remains hospitalized at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul after suffering a heart attack on the evening of May 10.

Lee reportedly regained consciousness on Sunday, and his condition appears to be improving.

"The chairman is showing a stronger response to external stimuli. Medical professionals are seeing that as a good sign," stated the Samsung Communications Director, Lee Jun, on May 28.

Lee Kun Hee regained consciousness for the first time in 15 days after reportedly hearing baseball player Lee Seung-yeup hit a homerun, according to Korean publication DongA.

"Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Jae-yong and other family members were watching the baseball game in chairman Lee's hospital room on the afternoon of the 25th. When Lee Seung-yeup hit a homerun, the Samsung Chairman opened his eyes," stated an associate for Samsung.

The associate added, "It seems as if the Samsung Chairman woke up to the sound of the commentator yelling 'Homerun!'"

After moving from the intensive care unit to the hospital room on May 19, chairman Lee's condition has reportedly improved considerably, according to Samsung officials.

The Samsung group remains positive in regards to news of Lee Kun Hee's health, according to the Korean publication Seoul Newspaper.

However, plans for the Ho-Am Prize ceremony, which is currently scheduled for May 30, might be readjusted depending on the Samsung Chairman's condition. The Ho-Am Prize is known as the Korean counterpart of the Nobel Prize.

There's a possibility that the main performance and the festive drinking might be canceled and changed into a simple dinner instead. Vice president Lee Jae-yong and several officials may not be in attendance at the upcoming ceremony as well.

"Family members will not be attending the Ho-Am Prize ceremony. Of the affiliate CEO's, everyone except Chief Executive Choi Ji Seong will be in attendance," stated Director Lee Jun.
