Firefox Phone: Will Firefox's Flame Smartphone Ignite A Spark In Its Mobile Platform Market Share?

The Firefox phone, also dubbed Flame has already hit the market and has begun its pre-order status.

For many years, the Firefox OS has been seen as a potential rival of Android due to the wide range of options it offers. However, the development of the platform, as well as a device that would support has been on the rocks for some time, and we did not even think it would be released.

Now, in a report by GSM Arena, another Firefox OS smartphone has hit the market and is now available for pre-order.

Dubbed as Flame, the smartphone packs some midrange specs that would not be a problem for people who are interested in getting this device. At only $170, the price is certainly a bargain for Firefox OS fans, and people who want a smartphone but are on a budget.

In the report, the Firefox Flame smartphone packs a decent 4.5-inch display with 854 x 480 resolution, a dual-core CPU running at 1.2GHz, a 'clockable' RAM which can be modified from 256MB to 1GB, a 5 megapixel camera at the back, and a 2MP front cam that can manage selfie shots and video calls.

Other specs include a microSD card slot, dual-SIM support, an 8GB of built in memory, and a 1,800mAh battery.

In the report, the Flame smartphone is built with the customers and developers in mind. This just means, the smartphone would offer a number of options when it comes to tweaking the device's software, and more customization features to make consumers feel that they really 'own' their handsets.

Android OS has a flourishing community of developers, though for the past years support for them has been reduced. In effect, forked Android versions such as those developed by the CyanogenMod team became very popular.

Firefox may be aiming for such popularity in its developer-friendly smartphones.
