Haren took the loss May 24 against the Phillies, despite giving up just two earned runs in six innings. He struck out a season-high-tying seven and walked two. Haren is 0-2 since beating the Marlins on May 14.

"Danny has really been doing what we expect him to do," manager Don Mattingly told the Dodgers' official website. "He keeps us in the game. He's a guy that keeps battling and changing speeds. He's not the guy with the 95-mph fastball anymore with the heavy split. He hits spots, he hits corners and he's going to keep fighting."

Cole has turned in quality starts in seven of his 10 games this season, including his last time out when he limited the Nationals to two runs in six innings. He allowed the Dodgers three runs in 5 2/3 frames last year, his only start against them.

Pittsburgh general manager Neal Huntington recently ruled out giving third baseman/outfielder Josh Harrison (.272/.316/.457) reps at shortstop, however, saying the Mercer/Barmes duo has performed well enough on defense to merit continued support.

"Jordy Mercer and Clint Barmes have done some great things for us defensively at shortstop that, while Josh is swinging the bat better, Jordy and Clint are in our minds better defensively," Huntington said. "And that is a position that organizationally, we believe we need to make sure we handle the baseball."
