Strausburg (3-4, 3.42 ERA) lasted seven innings his last time out, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven batters in a 3-2 loss. Strasburg had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Pittsburgh scored two runs to take the lead, according to MLB.com.

His counterpart will be Colby Lewis (4-3, 5.10 ERA). Lewis earned his fourth win by beating the Tigers on Sunday. He allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings. He has never pitched against the Nationals but is 8-4 with a 3.22 ERA in his last 13 Interleague games since signing with the Rangers in 2010, according to MLB.com.

Denard Span has been a major catalyst for Nationals' victories over the last several weeks, but the leadoff man has also contributed to the team's losing record during the month. In Washington's nine May wins, Span is batting .487 with 19 hits. In the team's 15 losses, however, Span is batting .164 with just 11 hits.

"Obviously it's in the back of my mind, it's in the back of all of our minds when we're not winning," Span said. "But I try to do whatever I can to get on base. I try and do whatever I can to simplify my job as much as possible."
