Godzilla Sequel Confirmed With Gareth Edwards Directing After Stars Spin Off Movie: Will Godzilla 2 And 3 Tackle Mothra And Other Iconic Monsters?

As "Godzilla" 2014 hits theaters, a sequel (or two) has already been confirmed with director Gareth Edwards returning.

“Gareth’s filmmaking talent makes him one of his generation’s most creative and visionary directors," said Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull.

"The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another 'Godzilla,' but who knew it would be a Star Wars installment?"

According to Science Fiction, Edwards the "Star Wars" spin off movie is scheduled to drop on December 16, 2016, meaning a "Godzilla" sequel will premiere after that.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life — join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," said Edwards according to StarWars.com.

So despite a long wait, it seems a "Godzilla" sequel is definitely on the docket for Edwards and Legendary Pictures, and many fans are excited.

"This newest Godzilla movie was basically like every other Godzilla movie (discounting the 1998 vomit) times 1,000 coolness points," commented Jake on Science Fiction.

"Buildup, teases, the climax of Godzilla using his atomic breath once or twice per movie, and even a human story that not too many people care too much for but is still a nice change of pace. Everything was just spot-on for me and I'm EXTREMELY excited to see more of these movies from Gareth Edwards!"

"I can't wait," said Matt. "The more Godzilla the better. I think we all want to see some old monsters back like Mecha Zillion and King Ghidrah!"

What monsters do you want to see in the "Godzilla" sequel?
