iPad Air 2 Rumored Specs Include Touch ID Home Button With Better Durability, Says Analyst

If you have been paying attention to rumors weeks before the iPad Air was launched, then you should remember that reports are claiming that the iPad 5 (iPad Air) and the iPad mini Retina would get the Touch ID button which we first saw in the iPhone 5s.

However, the release date has come and gone, and no finegrprint sensor was given for the two Apple slates.

Surely, there are rumors which just do not go away, and in a recent report by GSM Arena, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned that all of Apple's new iPhones and iPads which would be released in 2014 would get a fingerprint sensor.

That may not be too surprising for the iPhone 6 due to the fact that it is only following the footsteps of its iPhone 5s sibling. However, on the part of Apple tablets, it has been argued in the past that there is little to no need for tablet users to use their fingers to unlock their devices.

In spite some challenges by critics, Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple will ship over 140 million Touch ID sensors this year. Last year, the Cupertino risked it all and launched its first smartphone that has a fingerprint sensor. The market embraced the technology, and soon, other manufacturers were on the race to follow suit of Apple's first step.

Several devices were launched later that year with fingerprint sensors, including the HTC One max. This year, it is Samsung's turn to get the fingerprint sensor on board its Galaxy S5 flagship.

While Apple will be bringing 'old' tech to its upcoming iPhones and iPads, Kuo claims that Apple has used new chemicals in developing the Touch ID sensor, making it more durable and able to store information much longer.

So, do you think the upcoming iPad Air 2 (iPad 6), and even the iPad mini Retina 2 would get Touch ID home buttons?
