Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Appears In Leaked Image, Rumored Specs Include 4.5" Display, Heart-Rate Monitor, Water Resistance, New Quad-Core Chip

With the Galaxy S5 Active getting announced earlier today, we do not see any reason why the Korean manufacturer would hold off its Samsung Galaxy S5 mini handset. And indeed, it looks like the device is already nearing completion.

According to a report by GSM Arena, leaker of everything Samsung SamMobile posted several alleged live images of the Android-powered handset. And in the short spec list it included, it seems the Galaxy S5 mini is more of an Xperia Z1 Compact than an One mini 2. 

That is because a number of features found in the Galaxy S5 flagship are also rumored to be on board the smaller version. 

In the report, some of these features include water resistance, a heart-rate monitor, and even a fingerprint scanner near the smartphone's home button. While all of these specs are not yet confirmed, we assume that Samsung has learned its lesson in releasing its 'mini' devices. 

While HTC has stuck with the basics with its One mini 2 handset, getting almost only the One M8's design, and acquiring midrange specs instead, Samsung might be preparing the Galaxy S5 mini as a higher midrange smartphone. 

As far as design goes, the Galaxy S5 mini looks exactly like its bigger sibling, which is not entirely a bad thing. However, Samsung could have come up with a new design to establish its midrange device as an entirely different smartphone.

Previous rumored specs for the Android-running handset include a 4.5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, and an 8MP primary camera with a front-facing cam as well. However on the processor side, the Galaxy S5 mini will reportedly pass on Snapdragon 400 but instead get a newer and faster chip. 

In the report, the Galaxy S5 mini would get a new Exynos 3 Quad (Exynos 3470) chip that will pack a 1.4GHz quad-core CPU and 1.5GB of RAM.
