Phil Jackson To Coach Knicks? Team President Claims 'Steve Kerr Already Agreed To Knicks Job' Before Warriors Opening; Zen Master Wants New Coach To Have 'Prior Relationship' With Him

Phil Jackson's first major move was to rein in his old boy Steve Kerr for the New York Knicks head coaching job. We all know he failed, but he confides that Kerr already agreed to the job.

It's not really the bitter words of a mentor scorned. Jackson was calm and stated it in a matter-of-fact manner.

From ESPN: "Unfortunately for him, he committed to me the day before the job opened with Golden State. So I had to kind of release him to actually go to this job and say, 'You have to do what's right for yourself. I understood entirely the process he was going through to have that job open up. That was something he kind of thought would be a good fit for him. So that's good, we're happy for him."

He also confirmed that he was eyeing Derek Fisher for the job, as he prefers a coach who has a prior relationship with him. He stated that he's "a person that's on my list of guys that could be very good candidates for this job."

But the Knicks President is being realistic now. There are a lot of things with more weight than the lure of the Big Apple and working under Phil Jackson again. "He's got family in L.A. He's got little kids still in L.A. I have no idea if he wants to move his family and come here. Those are things that he would have to express. There are so many unknowns." Besides, Derek Fisher is still playing. His season just ended today.

The running thought in everyone's mind is that Phil Jackson is the winningest coach in the history of the NBA. Why not take the reins?

"Unless the Lord heals in me in the next week or two, I wouldn't see myself being physically prepared to take on the grind of coaching a basketball team right now."

So he needs a physical extension of himself on the bench. That seems easier said than done. Unfortunately for the Phil Jackson, the coaching search is not even his biggest problem.
