Charlie Hunnam Still Heartbroken Over Leaving `Fifty Shades of Grey’; Such Exquisite Pain

Fifty Shades of Grey Casting News: Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the movie adaptation of the erotic thriller novel "Fifty Shades of Grey." Sons of Anarchy" star was set to play billionaire heartthrob Christian Grey, but dropped out of the movie last October.

Fifty Shades of Grey just got a shade lighter. "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam left the movie based on E.L. James' best-selling triology in the early stages of production. Hunnam says it was a hard choice. Charlie Hunnam gave up one of the biggest roles of the decade. He says he is still missing the character that was his for a month.

Charlie Hunnam will be replaced by Jamie Dornan who will take the role of Christian Grey on the big screen. Hunnam, who dropped out of "Fifty Shades of Grey" last October, says the decision to leave the movie was "heartbreaking."

Hunnam told Life & Style magazine "I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn't have taken it on in the first place. When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it's heartbreaking not to be able to play him. ... It was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life."

Universal, who is producing "50 Shades of Grey," said the exit was due to scheduling conflicts with FX drama "Sons of Anarchy" and upcoming movie "Crimson Peak."

Asked about his replacement Hunnam told TMZ  "I'm sure he'll do a great job. I don't really know his work," Hunnam confessed. "But I know (director Same Taylor-Johnson) is amazing. She has fantastic taste so I'm sure he'll do a great job."

Even though Hunnam will not be playing Christian Grey, he will still be in the theater when it comes out.

"If they invite me to the premiere, I will go and see it there. If not, I'll go and buy some tickets on opening night."

"50 Shades Of Grey" is set to hit theaters February 13, 2015.
