The Pirates are playing much better baseball of late and scored 10 runs en route to a blowout victory vs the San Diego Padres on the road last night. Watch the free live stream online for game two in the three-game series on the West Coast.

It's a spot start for Hahn, who was selected by the Rays in the sixth round in 2010. The Padres acquired Hahn from Tampa Bay in an offseason trade, and in 10 appearances (seven starts) at Double-A San Antonio, Hahn had a 2.20 ERA, struck out 28 and walked 11 in 32 2/3 innings, according to MLB.com.

"We feel what we saw in Spring Training with Jesse was a Major League arm, big league stuff, good head on his shoulders," manager Bud Black said. "... Some of the other guys we considered, it just didn't quite fall on their day and maybe they hadn't pitched with the consistency that Jesse has pitched his last couple times out."

What Black and the rest of the Padres' coaching staff saw in Spring Training from Hahn was 8 2/3 scoreless innings spread over five appearances. And Hahn's last start for the Missions was one of his best, as he allowed one hit over five innings and 69 pitches in a winning effort.

"Being confident, attacking hitters with my best stuff," Hahn replied when he was asked what he learned in the Minors. "I think my fastball is my best pitch, and I use that strength against any hitter I face. My curveball, slider, changeup, they're all good right now."
