LG G3 Vs. Samsung Galaxy S5: The Battle Of Korean Android Heavyweights

Now that LG has announced its much awaited flagship, we now place it against one of the best in the industry today. Several experts have even asked why LG has not annnounced the device closer to the launch date of both the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8.

It looks like the 'other' Korean manufacturer was busy preparing not a contender for Android supremacy, but a winner.

Design

The Galaxy S5's design is ok, though we were expecting something that looks more premium, especially coming from a world renowned company as Samsung. The perforated back cover is not something the manufacturer should be ashamed with on its own, but when compared to other handsets in the same category, it certainly looks inferior. On the other hand, the LG G3 packs a polycarbonate plastic that is designed to look like brushed metal from afar. It sure is nothing spectacular, but when placed side by side with the Samsung flagship, it stands out.

Performance

While we cannot yet to evaluate the performance of both devices in 'real life situations', the LG G3 is certainly the better phone in paper. It packs the same Snapdragon 801 chipset as the Galaxy S5, but gets a 3GB RAM instead.

Display

This is another category where the LG Android handset trumps the Samsung bet easily. Really, QHD (2560 x 1440) is better than Full HD (1920 x 1080) even if you look at it from all angles. However, one possible downside of this display is its power-eating tendencies. We'll have to see how the G3 fares in the battery department.

Features

The LG G3 falls short against the Samsung Galaxy S5 when it comes to features. It may have the laser sensor at the back, but it does not have a fingerprint sensor, a higher resolution camera (16MP vs. 13MP), heartrate monitor and water resistance.

Verdict

The LG G3 is certainly the winner when it all goes down to specs, which could be the very reason why Samsung has been working on its Galaxy S5 Prime higher end flagship. Once the S5 Prime goes live, then we can pit both monster droids in a brawler.
