Kellan Lutz To Play William Shatner in "The Experimenter" About Milgram Experiments: Cast Also Includes Peter Sarsgaard, Winona Ryder, Jim Gaffigan, Anton Yelchin, and Taryn Manning [PHOTO]

The cast of Michael Almereyda's "The Experimenter" has added Kellan Lutz of "The Legend of Hercules," Anton Yelchin of "Star Trek," and "Orange is the New Black's" Taryn Manning. They will join Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder, as well as Josh Hamilton from"American Horror Story," Jim Gaffigan from "Super Troopers", Dennis Haysbert "24" and Danny A. Abeckaser "The Iceman."

The movie has begun shooting in New York. "The Experimenter," Producing are Uri Singer, Fabio Golombek, Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins, Danny A. Abeckaser and Per Melita. Jeff Rice, Lati Grobman, Christa Campbell, Lee Broda, Claudio Szajman, and Rogerio Ferezin are executive producers. 

The script is based on "the true story of famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram, who in 1961 designed the controversial Obedience Experiments at Yale University, observing the responses of ordinary people who believed they were sending harmful electrical shocks to an affable stranger."

"The experiments were about conformity and authority, and their implications continue to be deeply unsettling and resonant. But this was just the start of a wide-ranging career for Milgram, who also came up with the Small-World Experiment, the basis for Six Degrees of Separation."

Sarsgaard is playing Milgram, while Ryder is playing one of his students, Sasha Menkin, who helps with the experiments and with whom he falls in love.

Kellan Lutz will play actor William Shatner, who played Milgram in a '70s TV movie. Yelchin plays Rensaleer, a man who resists the authority. Manning plays Mrs. Lowe, a test subject who is distressed by the process and pushes back. 

Also joining the cast are Anthony Edwards "ER" as Miller, the first person subjected to the experiment, and Edoardo Ballerini "Romeo Must Die" as Milgram's best friend.

The drama is being labeled a B.B. Film Productions, F.J. Productions and Intrinsic Value Films release.
