Upcoming Android Phones 2014: Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Hitting Stores In July? Gets Water Resistance, Heart-Rate Monitor, Fingerprint Scanner

One of the most awaited upcoming Android phones for 2014 is the Galaxy S5 mini from Samsung. The device is expected to be much cheaper than its bigger sibling, and gets a similar design as well.

But will it get the same cool features of the Samsung flagship?

According to a new report by GSM Arena, insider of everything Samsung, SamMobile claims that the device will indeed pack IP67 certification, which makes the Galaxy S5 mini resistant to water, the heart-rate monitor located at the back, and finally the fingerprint sensor at its home button.

So what does the Galaxy S5 mini have that the flagship device doesn't? Well, aside from all the features, the S5 mini will be easily placed on the midrange level with its 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 8MP primary camera, quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU, Mali-400 GPU for decent graphics performance, and an Exynos 3 chipset.

Unfortunately, pricing details are not yet revealed, though we would expect Samsung to make the official announcement in the first two weeks of July.

For the past couple of years, the Korean manufacturer has included a 'mini' version for its flagship devices (starting with the Galaxy S3) in order to appeal to a more budget conscious market group. And so far, it has been working well for the company.

While its Galaxy mini devices have inferior specs compared to their flagship counterparts, their design and looks are at par to the original. This gives them plus points in the aesthetics department, which also gives the handsets better chances of getting noticed by potential buyers.

It looks like the Galaxy S5 mini will continue this trend, and we certainly expect a price tag somewhere in the $400 category. Above that, and Samsung is already killing its handset even before it is released.
