Sony Xperia Z2 Review: Ranking Sony's Flagship In A Sea Of Android Alpha Dogs

Launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, Sony's flagship device is its most powerful smartphone yet. And if you are looking for a simple Sony Xperia Z2 review to help you decide whether to get it or not, then check this out.

Of course if you are thinking of getting the Xperia Z2, there are also other options that you may already be considering as well.

Here are the top three rivals of the Sony Xperia Z2 for the Android crown.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung's flagship phone is feature-packed and while it does have inferior RAM compared to the Xperia Z2, it makes up for it with a better screen (Super AMOLED), and a bunch of cool features which may or may not be useful for owners such as the heartrate monitor and fingerprint scanner. In the camera department, the Sony flagship leads with its 20.7MP shooter compared to the 16 megapixel snapper of the S5.

HTC One M8

This is by far the top contender against the Sony Xperia Z2 in terms of design. This is glass against aluminum. While the Xperia Z2 is more stylish with its glass frame, the One M8 certainly look far more premium and a bit heavier with the aluminum casing with brushed metal finish. However, in terms of chipset and CPU clockspeed, the Sony phone outperforms the 2.2GHz Snapdragon 801 of the HTC flagship. The One M8 offers a unique Duo UltraPixel Camera, but the Xperia Z2's own camera is  a better all-rounder.

LG G3

Announced during the last week of May, the G3 is a living testimony that is better late than never. While it packs the same polycarbonate plastic as the Galaxy S5, it makes up for it by choosing a brushed metal paintjob. Compared to the Xperia Z2, the phones almost have the same length in spite of the G3's 5.5-inch display. That is how huge the bezels in the Sony smartphone are. The LG flagship matches the Xperia Z2 in most of its specs (3GB RAM, Snapdragon 801) though it beats the latter in terms of screen resolution (QHD vs. Full HD). Meanwhile, the Xperia Z2 gets the upperhand when it comes to camera (20MP vs. 13MP).

Conclusion

The Sony Xperia Z2 is certainly among the top handsets there is today. Unfortunately, it is taking far too long to be officially available in markets outside of Japan and the EU.
