Windows 9 Preview Release Date Set For Fall 2014? ‘Threshold’ Officially Available On Spring 2015; New OS ‘Arguably The Most Important Software Release In Microsoft's History’

Windows 9 Preview release date can happen later this year.

More particularly, Microsoft fans can expect the Windows 9 Preview release date to happen later this fall 2014. As reported on Latino Post, citing ZDnet.com, the popular source for Windows updates and news, the Windows 9 public review might be slated for a release date at some point around October.

Microsoft is allegedly working hard to combine the features of Windows 8 as well as those wanted by "hold out Windows 7 users."

Trusted Reviews shared, "Windows 9 is arguably the most important software release in Microsoft's history. Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1 have done a little to repair the damage from its most recent, and largely unpopular, operating system, and it's clear Microsoft needs to produce another Windows 7 and not a Windows Vista style disappointment."

Aside from the Windows 9 preview release date news, the ZDnet report noted that the upcoming version of Microsoft's operating system will be available in Spring 2015.

The Windows 9 is set to officially arrive after the launch of the anticipated update for Windows 8 - currently referred as Windows 8.1 and its expected release is set for the first quarter of 2015.

No official word has been provided yet regarding the official name of Windows 9, but accordingly, the upcoming major OS upgrade has a codename "Threshold." Occasionally, the OS update is also dubbed as Windows 8.2.

As specified on the Zdnet report, "one of the Microsoft Operating Systems Group's main goals in designing and developing the coming operating system (OS) release - which may or may not ultimately be branded as 'Windows 9' - is to try to make it more palatable to hold-out Windows 7 users."

To address the Windows 7 users, Microsoft will add new features to Windows 9 which are aimed for desktop users. Citing an example, the post reads, "when running Windows Threshold in a mouse and keyboard environment, the desktop will be the platform's main focus." Furthermore, "If Windows Threshold is installed on a 2-in-1 device, the interface will depend on whether the keyboard is connected (desktop) or not (Start screen)."

In addition to desktops, Windows 9 will also be available for mobile and tablet devices. Engadget explains that the Windows 9 OS will determine the kind of hardware it is running on and will "adjust the experience accordingly."
