Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Xperia Z3 Flagship And Z3 Compact Captured In Live Images, Could Be Unveiled At IFA Event In September

Sony has just unveiled its current flagship at the MWC in Barcelona, but that does not mean there would not be any high-end upcoming Sony phones for 2014 anymore.

And as early as July, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer has already prepared its next-gen flagship device.

According to a report by GSM Arena, a couple of images appeared on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, showing us what is claimed to be the Sony Xperia Z3.

Based on the phone's design, we haven't seen anything with this particular frame, more importantly the super slim bezels on the side. Aside from the flagship Z3, it will reportedly come with a sidekick in the Xperia Z3 compact.

The 'compact' lineup from Sony is very similar to the 'mini' handsets of other manufacturers, but it does stand out in one aspect - specs.

While all other minis are in the midrange category, Sony's 'compact' phones can still quality for the high-end category. Last year, the Japanese mobile maker released the Xperia Z1, and a few weeks later smaller versions of the device were launched (Xperia Z1s in China and Z1f in Japan) but instead of getting a slower chipset, smaller RAM and lower resolution camera, the manufacturer decided to retain all of these.

So that's why we're pretty excited about this Xperia Z3 Compact rumor, though it is also worth noting that the 'compact' version of the Z2 is not yet available. This leads us to the assumption that the bigger device could be the Xperia Z3, while the smaller phone could be the Z2 Compact.

Rumored specs of the Xperia Z3 include a bigger display with QHD resolution, 3GB of RAM, possibly a higher resolution camera, water resistance and the latest version of Android.

Like previous years, expect Sony to shed some light to these details in its press event at the IFA in Berlin in September.
