"The Legend of the Blue Sea" has aired 20 episodes. Filming began on Aug. 19, 2016, in Goesan, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea. The underwater scenes were filmed in Palau.
The TV drama series was inspired by Korea's unofficial historical tales, about a fisherman who captured and kidnapped a mermaid. It is a love story between Kim Dam-ryeong, played by Lee Min-ho, and Se-hwa, a mermaid cast by Jun Ji-hyun. They fell in love, broke up, and fate brings them back together again. A typical triangle love story but with a twist of incarnations and reborn.
Dramabeans recapped the finale episode of The Legend of the Blue Sea like a rollercoaster ride. The finale episode featured the "Saturday Night Live Korea" star Kim Seul Gi in a brief cameo role as a mermaid. It served as a special break from the emotional scenes that were expected from the show. There are also other stars who had a brief cameo role like Cha Tae Hyun, Jo Jung Suk, Ahn Jae Wong, Im Won Hee and a lot more.
