Former LOONA member Chuu is drawing mixed reactions after comments she made about her own weight. Keep on reading for all the details.
Former LOONA Chuu Garners Mixed Reviews Following Comments About Her Weight
On January 29, 2024, Chuu uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel, "Chuu Can Do It." The video featured fellow former LOONA member Yves. Together, the two hosted a "Meme World Cup," where they reacted to various popular internet memes.
As they checked out each meme, the two engaged in some lighthearted banter. However, one comment made by Chuu about her weight has rubbed people the wrong way.
The words were innocent enough. As the two reminisced about their younger days, Yves commented, "We look prettier now." Chuu agreed with her, saying, "I know. I am so much thinner now."
This simple sentence did not sit well with some viewers. Many longtime ORBITs (LOONA's fan base) commented that the group was one of the few that always prioritized their health over their appearance. During their time as LOONA, the members candidly spoke about eating the food they liked and encouraged fans to take care of their health instead of dieting.
People believe this sentence proves that the members of LOONA may have shifted their focus and started caring more about diets and their visuals.
It was noted that this is not the first time Chuu has spoken about her weight loss. In another episode of "Chuu Can Do It," Chuu once again noted that she lost a lot of weight and appeared happy with her new appearance.
Some comments read,
- "The LOONA members used to be some of the rare people in the industry who cared more about their health than their appearance.."
- "This is really, really disappointing."
- "This is not normal for LOONA and if you were a fan, you would know that."
Fans Defend Chuu Amid Backlash Over Comments On Her Weight
However, some defended Chuu against the negative reception she was receiving. Back in 2022, Chuu candidly spoke about her struggle with weight, saying one of the methods she used to cope with her sadness was binging. She struggled with overeating to the point where she would go to the emergency room because her body would stiffen up.
As she honestly spoke about her eating disorder before, people believed they should not be talking about Chuu's weight and should show more compassion. As Chuu appears brighter and happier now, some ORBITs are saying people should cheer for her recovery instead of bringing her down.
Some comments read,
- "She talked about her eating disorder, and instead of supporting you, you say it's disappointing? Please be for real."
- "She made it very clear that she struggles with an eating disorder. Instead of putting her on a pedestal and saying she's disappointing, why don't you understand that she is a real person with real issues whose recovery process isn't linear?"
- "She is still a normal person struggling... Just because she is an idol does not mean you can put her up on a pedestal."
